The Ultimate Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookie

I know everyone has their opinion on how a cookie should be. This is THE cookie of all cookies for me. I have sort of gotten a big head about them. In our ward I have become known as the cookie lady, and this is my signature cookie. I love these. Another reason they are such a hit is because I always bake them fresh, the day that I give them to someone. A day old cookie is not worth the calories, but fresh out of the oven, I could eat a dozen of these bad boys in a single sitting. If you don't want to bake all of the dough at once, save the remaining dough in the fridge and you can have fresh cookies again later.

Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies

1 cup Crisco
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup sugar
2 Tbsp hot water
2 eggs
1-2 tsp vanilla
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
2 1/2 cups flour
2 1/2 cups rolled oats blended in the blender
1 1/2 - 2 cups chocolate chips (I prefer semi-sweet chocolate chips but do what you want)
walnuts or pecans (optional)

Mix ingredients together in the order listed to form the cookie dough. Place cookie dough on cookie sheet in big balls (1/4 cup to 1/3 cup in size) and do not flatten. Bake at 350 for 8-10 minutes, or until cookie starts to get golden. Makes 2 dozen large cookies.
Enjoy!

These look amazing. Either Veronica or I will have to make these soon--maybe this weekend. Good job getting a reputation!

Oatmeal chocolate chip cookies are my favorite so I was delighted to come across this recipe. I made them tonight and they did not turn out at all. I'm not sure what I did wrong but they ended up being huge cookies balls that didn't flatten at all when I cooked them.

I had the same experience. Big balls of cookie that did not flatten out at all. Is there a mistake in the recipe?

Okay, so there seems to be a problem with the flour amount. In the recipe I put 3 cups of flour, assuming people would measure the flour by sprinkling the flour into the measuring cup and then leveling with the back of a knife. If you scoop the flour with the measuring cup, the measurement should be more like 2 1/4 cup (as the flour compacts and you are actually getting more flour in the measuring cup if you measure it this way.) The dough should have structure to it but shouldn't be so stiff that it isn't cohesive. Sorry for the confusion everyone. Try again. These cookies really are worth it.
